Releasing vtDebug 6.0.3 for vTiger 6.4

Today we have an exciting update for you. The latest version of vtDebug compatible with vtiger 6.4 is here. The vtDebug 6.0.3 carries the same persona and the dependability of its predecessors. It eases debugging with a toggle for settings of Smarty log, ADODb log and log4php with a single click each time. The features and advantages of vtDebug are as follows: –


  • View Console is an easy way to access smarty log, ADODb log and vTiger CRM log files all at one place.
  • Php log access, and PHP info access is accessible from the vtDebug plugin.

DOCS++ – A great way to manage documents in Vtiger

Dear Vtiger enthusiasts!

It has been a very good experience to add another recipe to our cookbook of recipes based on open source CRM vtiger. This time we have made an extension for the documents module of the Vtgier CRM.

Docs++ is multiple document upload tool specially designed and developed for Vtiger CRM by us (myEnterprise Services a partner of Vtiger for Asia and African regions). The main purpose of Docs++ tool is to allow multiple document and file uploads in a single time in Vtiger CRM. This tool enables multiple document upload for all the available Vtiger modules and even the custom modules built-in Vtiger.


The main features of Docs++ are

  • Tracking the uploaded files using file storage hierarchy

New UI type for vtiger6.x – CRM Module Name

Dear vtiger enthusiasts,

As a developer I have always enjoyed inventing new tools for fellow developers and making life of a business analyst more easy. In the recent years my effort has been focused on vtiger CRM and its related development.

Recently a customer requirement came up where, based on a customer need, the module names were required to be pulled up in a field. Did a little work and I came up with this new UI type – CRM Module Name.

Business case:

Client’s CRM was a highly customized vtiger CRM where each module was intended for a specific purpose and did a certain significant thing in the business operations hierarchy. For this reason, it was required that the CRM users needed help on using and understanding each module, what it does and what the data in the module represents. This help to the CRM users would appear in the right hand side of the current screen as a pull down help menu item. Since the new modules kept getting added to the CRM, every time the CRM administrator had to seek help in adding help content to each module. The CRM administrator would do good with a new module which picked the module name and added help content about the module in a text box which then appeared at the module level.

Our approach:

In Vtiger CRM Modules, datafields in the modules can be of various types. From simple numeric, text and date types, there are enhancements like enumerated types. There are many use cases where the built in UI types, including the hidden ones, are insufficient for customization. Hence I felt this new UI type will add a lot of value to the vtiger CRM developers in determining all the module names the user has access to. Since admin privileges would not be given to all users, he will not be in a position to know directly what modules he has access to and what modules he does not , when he is in record edit/delete/create view.

This new UI CRM Module Name helps the user to know exactly which modules can he access, which modules are visible to him etc. Check screen shots here.

Fix that bug – ReportsTo popup issue in User creation in vtiger 6.3

Dear vtiger enthusiasts

Life has moved on after vtiger5.4. Life for our customers also has moved on. We recently had a few migration requests to vtiger 6.3 from vtiger 5.4 and we noticed that there is this bug in the user creation process in vtiger6.3 where we are not able to select the reporting manager for the user currently in creation. This was mainly because the popup that came up in the RelatedTo window did not have the user names column to choose from. The popup shows only the Office Phone (work_phone) field and not the other fields as shown below.

In the new paradigm, the columns that populate the Selection Popup are derived from the list of Summary Fields for any module.

Summary Fields are identified by having the value 1 in the summaryfield column for the field defition in vtiger_field

Only in the absense of Sumary Fields for a module, will the usage of list_fields and list_field_names arrays from the base mcodule class be called upon via the function getRelatedListFields defined in modules//models/Module.php and falls back on modules/Vtiger/models/Module.php if not declared.

In Vtiger 630, the function getRelatedListFields has been modified in Vtiger 630 and does not work due to a code variance(shown below).

The other modules which have the summaryfield attribute set in vtiger_field do not use this function for the Popup listview population.


There are 3 ways to get this fixed.

Code the function getRelatedListFields in modules/Users/models/Module.php


Change the declaration of function getRelatedListFields in modules/Vtiger/models/Module.php to old 620 code


Update the summaryfield column value to 1 for a few fields in Users module fields definitions (tabid=29) in table vtiger_field

UPDATE vtiger_field set summaryfield=1 WHERE tabid=29 AND columnname in (“first_name”, “last_name”, “title”, “department”, “reports_to_id”, “email1”);

Any of these fixes will yield the following result.

It is still true that all businesses who need a reporting manager hierarchy within vtiger users only may need this. But it is always a good idea to have a reporting manager for any user so that while the user is disabled or deleted, the records assigned to that user may belong to his supervisor.

We have written to also about this. Hopefully they may add it in their next bug fixes release.
